The reaction of 50 winter wheat cultivars/lines to artificial infection with Pyrenophora tritici-repentis (PTR) races 1, 3, and 6 was studied under greenhouse conditions. The set of tested cultivars/lines included predominantly cultivars registered in the Czech Republic and some new breeding lines. A high level of resistance to P. tritici-repentis was detected in the cultivars Clarus, Rheia, Cubus, SHMK WW 14-92, Šárka, Vlasta and Dromos (SWS 799.14953), susceptible reactions were observed in the cultivars Caphorn, Corsaire, Karolinum, Heroldo (PBIS 00/91), Hedvika, Biscay, Svitava, Barroko (PBIS 00/140) to all three races...
Powdery Mildew Resistance of Winter Barley Varieties in Czech Official Trials

Czech J. Genet. Plant Breed., 2006, 42(2):38-43 | DOI: 10.17221/3652-CJGPB
In 1996-2005, resistance to powdery mildew was studied in 167 winter barley varieties (of them 83 two-rowed and 84 six-rowed, 45 Czech and 122 foreign ones) included in the Czech Official Trials in that period. Seventeen known resistances to powdery mildew were identified (Ar, Bw, Di, Dr, Dt, Ha, HH, Ch, IM9, La, Lu, Ly, Ra, Ru, Sp, St and We). Unknown resistances were found in 25 varieties, in six of which (= 3.6% of all the examined set) they were effective to all used pathotypes of the pathogen. Six varieties exhibited heterogeneity in the examined trait, i.e. they are composed of lines with different resistances to powdery mildew. The most frequent...

The study was aimed at determining potential differences in seed quality of spring and winter barley in relation to varieties (four winter and two spring barley varieties) and growing conditions (six locations, two years). Three tests were performed on each seed sample, i.e. (1) the standard germination test; (2) the low temperature and drought stress germination test and (3) the germination test in a salt solution. The effects of the factors of variety, provenance and year on seed vigour were estimated by the analysis of variance and Tukey's post hoc test. The germination of winter varieties was influenced by provenance, both measures of vigour (2...

A set of quality parameters (crude protein content, Zeleny sedimentation test, wet gluten content, gluten index, albumins + globulins content, gliadin content, sum of glutenins, proportion of albumins + globulins in crude protein and relative viscosity) was tested in 17 doubled haploid (DH) wheat lines differing in the presence or absence of 1B/1R translocation. The presence of 1B/1R translocation (allele Gli 1B3) affected the significantly higher content of albumins and globulins and significantly lower value of gluten index. Nevertheless, a certain translocation influence on the other parameters (Zeleny sedimentation test; relative viscosity; proportion...

A selected set of twenty inter-line F1 hybrids of Brassica napus L. was evaluated for their capacity to produce microspore-derived doubled haploid (DH) plants subsequently utilized in the breeding project "Czech Winter Rape". All tested genotypes were able to produce microspore-derived embryos based on the standardized protocol previously adopted for the Czech winter rape varieties/breeding lines; nevertheless, significant differences were found in the frequency of microspore-derived embryo production as related to particular genotypes. However, the fertile DH regenerants were obtained only in 12 hybrid lines of this set. The other...
